Land Rover 2.0 Ingenium Diesel Engine Replacement
When the 2.0 Ingenium diesel engine in your Land Rover or Jaguar fails, the only lasting solution is a complete long engine replacement.
At K Motors we install reconditioned long engines built to a high specification and supplied with a 12-month or 30,000-mile warranty.
A complete fitted replacement is available from £8592 including VAT.
Why engine replacement becomes necessary
The Ingenium 2.0 diesel engine, fitted across much of the Land Rover and Jaguar range, is prone to a number of high-cost failures.
Problems often begin with stretched timing chains and oil dilution that leads to bearing wear.
In many cases the crankshaft eventually breaks without warning.
Once damage extends to the crankshaft, pistons, or engine block, repair becomes uneconomical.
Replacing the entire long engine restores reliability and prevents repeat breakdowns.
Partial repairs such as fitting new timing gear or bearings when the bottom end is already compromised rarely succeed.
Vehicles treated this way often suffer another failure within a short period.
A properly rebuilt exchange engine is the most dependable and cost-effective solution.
What a reconditioned long engine includes
- Water pump and oil pump
- Bearings, pistons, and piston rings
- Full timing chain kit and hydraulic lifters
- Refurbished valves with pressure-tested cylinder heads
- Reassembly to original tolerances
The result is an engine that is effectively renewed, supplied with a warranty for 12 months or 30,000 miles.
Vehicles affected
The 2.0 Ingenium diesel has been fitted in a wide range of Land Rover and Jaguar models since 2015.
These include the Range Rover Evoque, Velar, Discovery Sport, Discovery 5, Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace.
Both single-turbo and twin-turbo versions can suffer the same type of failures.
Many of these cars are now in the mileage range where engine replacement is becoming common.
Our full installation package
- Removal of the old engine and handling of the exchange unit
- Supply and installation of a reconditioned long engine to match your vehicle
- Replacement gaskets, seals, fluids and stretch bolts
- A new oil cooler to protect the replacement engine
- DPF refurbishment and software update at no extra charge
- Road test and full health check before return
We also carry out a full inspection of the surrounding systems.
Many Ingenium engine failures are not caused by a single defect but by related issues that, if left unresolved, could damage the replacement engine.
For example, turbocharger problems such as excessive shaft play, oil starvation or carbon build-up can allow metal fragments or oil contamination to enter the new unit.
Blocked or cracked DPFs can cause repeated oil dilution from failed regenerations, leading to thinning oil and bearing wear.
Intake leaks, split hoses or failed intercoolers can create incorrect boost pressures and over-fuelling.
A clogged or faulty crankcase breather system can raise crankcase pressures and push oil past seals, starving vital bearings.
If we identify problems like these during the job, we will provide a clear estimate for any additional work required.
Typical fixes may involve turbocharger refurbishment or replacement, new intercooler pipework, or installation of an updated breather assembly.
Only by addressing the root cause at the same time as fitting the engine can long-term reliability be assured.
Cost of replacement
The fitted price for the single-turbo version is £8592 including VAT.
The twin-turbo version is £9480 including VAT.

- Labour, 20 hours at £79.50/hr: £1590
- Gaskets, seals, bolts and fluids: £300
- New oil cooler: £70
- DPF refurbishment and software update: Free
Subtotal £7160 + VAT £1432 = £8592 including VAT.
Engines are supplied on an exchange basis.
A surcharge of £1500 may be applied if the old unit is not serviceable, for example where the crankshaft has snapped or the block is holed.
