| Freelander 2 Repairs - Rear Differential The rear differential is a fairly common failure point on pre 2009 Freelander 2s, there will be a whining or droning coming from the rear diff particularly noticeable when driving at a constant higher speed. | ||||

| Freelander 2 Repairs - Rear Differential Haldex Pump The Haldex pump applies the torque to the rear diff when pulling away or during slow speed manoeuvring creating a 4WD system. | Freelander 2 Repairs - Power Steering Pump Reservoir If you suddenly start hearing a whine when you are steering then there are three common causes; the first to check is the power steering fluid reservoir, there is a gauze filter at the bottom which can get blocked and cause a lack of hydraulic fluid being supplied to the pump making it run dry. | ||||

| Freelander 2 Repairs - Steering Rack Steering rack issues are a fault most commonly found on pre 2008 Freelander 2s where during the manufacture of the rack, remnants of the welding process were not flushed out properly, causing swarf to contaminate the system which prevents the power steering fluid from flowing properly. The vehicle will steer without problems under normal driving conditions but when you slow to pull into a parking space for example the steering will become really heavy and very difficult to turn. We would always advise changing the power steering fluid reservoir if the rack is to be replaced. | ||||

| Freelander 2 Repairs - Front Wheel Bearing A grinding or rumbling noise that gets worse when turning and gets louder the faster you travel often indicates a worn wheel bearing. To check, jack up the wheel and feel for play by rocking the wheel from top to bottom. If you find play here or the wheel feels rough when rotated then the complete hub and bearing assembly needs to be replaced. | ||||

| Freelander 2 Repairs - Cam Belt Replacement Land Rover recommend changing the timing belt at 150,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first. However we do recommend it is done earlier especially if you are unsure of the history of the vehicle as repairing an engine once the belt has snapped is very expensive. | Freelander 2 Repairs - Fuel Gauge Faults | ||||
| If you have noticed that your fuel gauge is reading incorrectly then this can be caused by a faulty fuel sender (there are 2 in each tank) or a faulty ECU. However, sometimes it can just be an issue with the connectors that attach the wiring loom to the fuel sender units which can be replaced. It is a common fault with a number of Land Rover models. Be careful if you are thinking that you can live with a incorrect reading on the dash because if the ECU thinks the tank is empty it will stop the engine to prevent any damage and not start again and you can guarantee it will do it at the most inconvenient time and location. | ||||

| Screeching or locked up and hot rear wheels can be caused by the handbrake shoes collapsing, meaning either the contact material has come away from the metal shoe and jammed or one of the mechanisms has broken causing them to lock up.
