Range Rover SRS Airbag light illuminated on dash
Models Affected:
At K Motors we have encountered many Range Rover models from 2013 onwards with the air bag light warning light (SRS Fault) showing on the dashboard. Whilst airbag faults can be very concerning for owners, potentially indicating issues with the Airbag units themselves, we have found the main culprit is a small gauge wire running to a connector underneath the front seats.
This page covers symptoms, causes, and how to permanently fix this with Land Rover’s approved overlay wire repair method.
Symptoms
Diagnosis & Cause
The air bag light will come on intermittently, although this can of course be the result of a faulty airbag or a faulty control module, it is generally caused by faulty wiring, you will find you can sometimes get the light to go off by either moving the seat backwards and forwards or by grabbing the wires under the seat and giving them a wiggle.
When running diagnostics, if fault codes B0028-13 or B0021-13 are observed, we will immediately be checking this wiring under the seats.
Unfortunately the airbag wiring is slightly too short, and thus, moving the seat can stretch the wiring and/or put stress on the connector to the airbag sensor.
How is the problem solved
Land Rover are aware of this airbag wiring problem and have made an extended overlay wire kit (part number LR110737) that can be fitted to the seat module and hard wired into the airbag wiring harness, fixing the fault and stopping the SRS light from illuminating on the dash.
The repair involves removing the affected front seat and part of the leather, then replacing the damaged wire at the end connected to the sensor. The replacement extended wire is then fed through the seat base, leaving extra length to prevent this failure from happening again and finally the replacement wire is connected to the existing loom.
After this, we will connect our diagnostic systems once again to check for any further fault codes and to confirm the repair was successful.
Estimated Repair Costs
This estimate is inclusive of diagnostics, removal of the affected front seat and leather trim, and replacement of the faulty airbag wiring with the LR110737 overlay wire.
